Ensuring Your Health Care Wishes Are Obeyed

There have been a number of highly publicized cases in the news that have dealt with medical care for individuals who are incapacitated, in a vegetative state or are otherwise unable to communicate. One way to prevent any arguing between your family members and/or medical providers is to create a legal living will. This document provides a plan that is legally binding, indicating how you wish to be medically cared for in the event you are unable to care for yourself or communicate your wishes due to incapacitation.

I am attorney Mitchell P. Sandler and I have been helping Nassau County and Long Island residents with their living will and other estate planning needs for over 25 years. I understand the emotions that can accompany these types of decisions. It is my goal to minimize the stress and concerns throughout this process and establish a comprehensive plan that accurately conveys your wishes.

Contact my office today to schedule an initial consultation. During this meeting we can discuss your specific situation and how to tailor your living will to meet your needs.

  • The more detailed your living will is, the easier it will be for medical care providers and your loved ones to understand the directions you are trying to give. They will be much more able to carry out your wishes if they are communicated clearly and articulately.
  • You can include any type of directions, such as whether or not you wish you have a feeding tube if you are in a vegetative state, what type of lifesaving measures should be taken if you are declared brain dead, and others.
  • I utilize my years of experience when providing clients with the guidance they need in structuring living wills. I have extensive knowledge of the types of medical situations that may arise and procedures that may be addressed in a living will. I can also help you address issues involving appointing a health care proxy, establishing medical directives and securing HIPAA releases.
